Review
An adventurous read!
When you read this story remember it has been written for YA genre. If you become too discerning, you may not enjoy it! I decided to read it with that in mind and I kind of enjoyed the book.
When Lucinda boards a flight to meet her brother Caleb in Italy, she is in for the shock of her life. The plane could as well have been a time capsule as when she leaves her seat to visit the restroom and comes back, she is surprised too find herself transported into a different era.
She finds herself in 1200 AD where she resembles Princess Grace. She meets a squire named Chadwick who falls in loves with her and helps her find out the truth about the real Princess.
The story is appealing and teenagers will love the fantasy and adventure.
Five stars!

Don't Panic Book Excerpt

View 13224625.jpg in slide show

Samantha Branson is having severe anxiety attacks. Her heart beats unusually fast, her breath quickens and her hands sweat. Every detail screams in her head that she is the center of unwanted attention. Everyone can hear her thoughts, her heart and her breathing. The silence of the classroom is so loud that focus is impossible.

After an attack lands her in the wrong bathroom, Sam meets Eli who offers to provide help. Faced with the return of her possessive ex-boyfriend and the blossoming of a new romance, Sam must find the strength inside herself to face her anxieties head on.

Bio:
Lindsay Paige is a young adult romance author from North Carolina. Most of what Lindsay writes are her daydreams in lavish details. (Please excuse that fact when you read one of her future works about a girl who sleeps around.;)) When not writing, she is working to finish her first year of college.

Lindsay loves to read, listen to music, watch and play tennis, along with watching her favorite hockey team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lindsay is a big fan of Sidney Crosby (87) and buys Penguins merchandise whenever she can.
Lindsay loves to be around her family and best friends. One summer after viewing a video of Nicholas Sparks' house, Lindsay's mother made the comment that she should write a bestselling novel since she "reads so much", that way they could have a beautiful house as
well. Lindsay took her comment to heart. She began working on Sweetness. A year later, the novel was complete.

Many of the aspects of the characters in Sweetness were inspired by Lindsay's own struggles, such as a recovering alcoholic father and the anxiety Emily suffers because of her past.

Excerpt:
Why is this happening to me? My throat constricts as my body heats up. Sweat forms and drips from my chin. No. No. NO! I have to get out of here. I can’t be in this classroom for another second. It’s too much. My hands are trembling, and my legs won’t stop bouncing up and down.
Up and down.
Over and over they bounce as fast as they can. I can’t stop sweating. I can’t keep my palms from being clammy. I can’t make my body stop shaking and I can not prevent my legs from bouncing up and down. Why does it feel like everyone is watching me when their backs are to me? Why does it feel like everyone can hear my thoughts? I dig my fingernails into my palm as a distraction. It works for a half second.
We are supposed to give a presentation today and I'm nervous to say the least. I despise standing up in front of a group and telling them something, but lately every emotion has been enhanced. What if it comes out rushed? That's points off and I can't make less than an A. What if I forget something or forget what I was going to say all together? That'll earn me a zero. I work too hard in school to afford a zero. This AP class is major for me, but it has been so stressful to keep up with all the work and make A's.
“Samantha, you’re next.”
No. Oh goodness. No. This can’t be happening. I can’t handle this. Everyone looks at me now. They are patiently waiting for me to stand and present to the class. The fight or flight response is flashing in huge neon red lights in my head. I have been trying to fight, but I just can’t do this. I make my decision.
Flight.

The Spy Lover Book Review

Title: The Spy Lover
Author: Kiana Davenport
Length: 303 pages
Format: Paperback/ eBook
Publisher: Thomas & Mercer
Release Date: Aug 28, 2012
Buy Link: Amazon

Synopsis:

Thrust into the savagery of the Civil War, a Chinese immigrant serving in the Union Army, a nurse doubling as a spy for the North, and a one-armed Confederate cavalryman find their lives inextricably entwined.
Fleeing drought and famine in China, Johnny Tom arrives in America with dreams of becoming a citizen. Having survived vigilantes hunting “yellow dogs” and slave auction- blocks, Johnny is kidnapped from his Mississippi village by Confederate soldiers, taken from his wife and daughter, and forced to fight for the South. Eventually defecting to the Union side, he is promised American citizenship in exchange for his loyal services. But first Johnny must survive the butchery of battles and the cruelties inflicted on non-white soldiers.
Desperate to find Johnny, his daughter, Era, is enlisted as a spy. She agrees to work as a nurse at Confederate camps while scouting for the North. Amidst the unspeakable carnage of wounded soldiers, she finds solace in Warren Petticomb, a cavalryman who lost an arm at Shiloh. As devastation mounts in both armies, Era must choose where her loyalties lie—with her beloved father in the North, or with the man who passionately sustains her in the South.
A novel of extraordinary scope that will stand as a defining work on the Chinese immigrant experience, The Spy Lover is a paean to the transcendence of love and the resilience of the human spirit

Review

The Spy Lover was a very enlightening read. Well researched with a lot of insight into the Civil War, it is definitely headed for success.

The three main characters – Johnny, Eva and Warren are emotionally portrayed making the reader really get ‘into’ their lives. Johnny - a Chinese man, comes from China to America in search of a future. Instead he is kidnapped and made to join the fight against the south in the US Civil War, where he is treated in the worst possible way because he is not white. His daughter Eva becomes a spy in order to search for her father and meets Warren a Confederate soldier from whom she hides her past.
A poignant romance, a history retold – The Spy Lover is a book that you will be unable to put down.star

Five Stars all the way!!

Book Review : Deja Vu All Over Again

Synopsis

IT HAD LONG BEEN DEBATED THAT THE END OF DAYS FOR PLANET EARTH WAS SET IN CONCRETE AS DECEMBER 21, 2012. Mathematical savant Ana Christensen was merely following her instincts when working a theorem in a direction and style that could have never been accepted by traditional mathematicians. As a result she stumbled upon an ancient Mayan creation, a time loop beginning in 3114BC and ending on the long contested twenty first century date. In a dynamic race against time, Ana and her male compatriot battle the forces of individual evil, bureaucracy, paramilitary mercenaries, and most powerful of all…destiny.

Review

With December 21, 2012 fast approaching, most wonder whether it will be the end of the world and what it will be like. Deja Vu All Over Again is a story that is based around this date. A fast paced thriller this book combines Sci-fi and suspense to make it a winner. While I am not usually a sci-fi fan, Deja Vu All Over Again is a book I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

It tells the story of a woman called Ana who tries to save the world. The book has a little of everything – violence, romance, fantasy and action. Ana connects to quantum space and transcends the time loop.

A five star rated book, it is definitely one that will do well for a holiday read.
